November 2003

We've got tons of news for you since you last heard from us.  Last month we held QualNet World in Boston.  It was a great success, with two parallel tracks of programming.  The sessions were full of lively discussion and interesting QualNet-in-action stories.  For more QualNet news, read on!

QualNet Teaching Materials Now Available from the University of Delaware

The University of Delaware and SNT are happy to announce the availability of a set of instruction aids developed using QualNet.  The instruction aids consist of two components:

    • animations of ad hoc networking protocols, which let people visualize protocol operations to better comprehend the basic concepts, and

    • simulation exercises, which help people learn how to use existing simulation models and develop new ones.  Instructions are step-by-step, and use QualNet.

An initial set of animated ad hoc networking protocols (such as DSR, AODV, LAR, ODMRP, IEEE 802.11) have been developed.  Although QualNet was originally developed for scalable simulation of mobile wireless networks, it does equally well for simulating (wired) Internet based protocols. Following Kurose and Ross' textbook "Computer Networking, a top down approach featuring the Internet" (2nd edition), the University of Delaware has developed a sequence of simulation exercises that uses the QualNet simulator to help people learn the book materials, QualNet, and how to develop simulation models.

The simulation exercises and protocol animations are publically available from

Webinar

Free 1-hour webinar!

Every month, SNT puts on internet-based instructional seminars, or webinars.  Our upcoming webinar is entitled "The QualNet Modeling Paradigm"  and will be taking place on Wednesday December 3rd, 2003 at 1:30pm PST.

To participate in our teleconference, you need a phone and a computer with an internet connection.  In the upcoming webinar, we will walk you through the basic protocol stack model of QualNet. After the webinar, you should understand how the code base fits together and where QualNet-specific calls are executed at the model level.

Register now for QualNet Modeling Paradigm Webinar.
