What types of licensing schemes does QualNet support?
Article
Client-Server/floating
: This type of license requires a license server. A license server provides a floating license that can be served from the server to a number of client machines that are within the licensed IP range. Anyone on the sanctioned network can use a floating license, if they can connect to the license server.
Please note that when using a license server, each client machine needs to have QualNet installed and have a client license file (same as the server license file). The client license file directs QualNet to checkout the actual license from the server and then return it back to the server upon completion of use. Only the purchased or sanctioned number of licenses can be in use at a given time, however the license is not tied to a particular machine.
Node Locked
: This type of license is tied to a particular machine such as a laptop and can not be used through multiple machines on a network. Only the particular machine that the license has been locked to can use this license file to run QualNet. Use this license scheme if you plan on using QualNet always on the same machine (single machine license). This type of license does not require a license server and is very easy to install (simply place the license file in the license_dir folder of QualNet).
Dongle:
Dongles are physical USB based license keys. Any machine can use a dongle license provided the USB key is inserted in the machine and the dongle license software is installed. This scheme is well suited to classified environments and primarily issued only in such cases. Please note that dongle licenses are available for certain countries only and require approval by our sales department. Each dongle will cost an additional $250.
