| Man-in-the-loop simulations with other simulation federates |
With its real-time simulation speed, QualNet supports man-, software- and hardware-in-the-loop simulation. Interfaces such as HLA, sockets and the IP Network Emulation interface are tools that enable in-the-loop simulations. |
| Development of doctrine --tactics, techniques, procedures |
QualNet can be directly integrated to ModSAF/OTB via HLA. With detailed wireless models including fading, signal to noise interference, pathloss, terrain, modulation, mobility and antenna models, combat network simulation is highly realistic. Quality of Service models simulate bandwidth-hungry multimedia applications across combat networks.
An example of how ModSAF/OTB and QualNet are integrated is as follows. ModSAF/OTB sends radio transmission specifications for each battlefield message to QualNet. QualNet then sends a response to ModSAF telling whether the message was successfully delivered to its intended recipient, and, if successful, the time it took for the message transmission. |
| Training tools |
QualNet is used in many military training platforms as the communications element of a multi-federate simulation. Because communication systems are so critical to battlefield effectiveness, combat communication simulators are integrated into flight simulators and other training tools for maximum realism. |
| Directional Antenna Communication Infrastructure |
New technologies for directional antennas are being developed, but the experimental designs need to be rapidly evaluated before entering the next phase of development. SNT has multi-granularity models of wireless channels that use directional communications, jamming devices, and detailed radio and physical layer models. Results from these models enable unparalleled detailed analysis. |
| Wide-area sensor networks. |
QualNet is being used to model a threat-aware, self-configuring wireless sensor network based on LR-WPAN (IEEE 802.15.4) with a reasoning system capable of interpreting and integrating spatially and temporally distributed, multi-spectral data while assessing threats using Anticipatory theory. |
