Homeland Security

Below is a list of sample homeland security projects in which QualNet has played a role.

Project Type Example
Effective use of electromagnetic spectrum As the wireless networks that support combat are deployed more broadly, the capacity of these wireless communication systems must increase. To achieve this goal, SNT used QualNet to test and validate dynamic spectrum management capabilities that ensure availability and efficient use of spectrum resources. Scientists are studying cross-layer optimization in wireless networks including signal power levels, instantaneous data rates, routing, antenna weighting, link scheduling, and other parameters. Ultimately, the project seeks to develop advanced ad-hoc wireless protocols that intelligently manage the trade-offs between efficient spectrum utilization and QoS.
Emergency Operations Center The purpose of this project is to research, test and demonstrate the feasibility of developing a unique, integrated high-speed communications network for emergency operations for a county-wide area. The concept leverages the bandwidth allocated by the FCC for Public Safety (4.9 GHz) and for Intelligent Transportation Systems (5.9 GHz). This effort will result in a demonstration of a prototype system, final report and an Operational Transition Plan that will provide a multi-year roadmap for future efforts.
