The EXata network emulation platform (EXata) is used by planners, analysts, IT technicians, and communication specialists to evaluate the performance of communication networks under different operational conditions, mitigate identified operational issues, and assess the resiliency of the network to cyber threats. EXata Lite, an extension of our EXata developer license, is a low cost, easy to use offering that enables analysts to test, evaluate, and optimize scenarios created with the developer license. EXata Lite also permits multiple analysts to access the scenarios simultaneously, regardless of geographical location, and continues our vision of providing users with a complete network digital twin ecosystem.

Purchased separately as a run-time license, EXata Lite includes the same libraries included with the associated developer license. This includes external interfaces and other licensed features. Additionally, EXata Lite features an easy-to-use interface that allows users to run several what-if scenarios. Personnel can then analyze these scenarios without the need for a background in EXata software or extensive networking. You can also use parallel runtime coordinates that facilitate faster results for scenarios. The ease of use and versatility of EXata Lite makes it ideal for any scenario designer and analyst. Regardless of what you require for executing multiple scenarios, EXata Lite can give you everything you need in an accessible, affordable solution.

To help give analysts complete control over their scenarios and run-time parameters, users can benefit from a very user-friendly interface. This interface gives you a full view of the scenario in a defined workflow that starts with the scenario designer with an EXata license. From there, one or more scenario analysts with an EXata Lite license receive the scenario for evaluation and further optimization. The interface makes it easy for analysts to change run-time parameters at any point, including transmission power. Scenario designers can determine which parameters analysts can change and save the scenario before sending it down to analysts for optimization. Analysts can also change scenarios and run them to easily compare results with clearly presented data.

Created for Designers and Analysts

The EXata Lite feature has been developed to support these two roles: Designer and Analyst. The Designer uses her expertise to create the base scenario, and the Analyst(s) modifies the base scenario to create what-if scenarios and runs them for detailed analysis. The Designer creates a scenario, just like any regular EXata scenario, and identifies which parameters can be modified by an Analyst (‘mutable’ parameters). The Designer then digitally signs the scenario and hands it to the Analyst(s). The Analyst can not create an EXata scenario but can modify the mutable parameters in a designer-created scenario to create what-if scenarios and can run and analyze them.

The Streamlined EXata Workflow

The entire EXata suite is designed for a simple collaborative workflow. With an EXata license, collaboration between network designers and analysts is seamless and efficient. In EXata, scenarios include all of the network devices and their parameters. Scenario designers can place subnets and nodes, define node mobility, and configure protocols according to the network design. Protocols can be assigned to individual nodes or whole groups for easy set-up. After the basic scenario is in place, the design engineer can set the parameters and sign the design. Once designed, configured, and signed, the scenario passes to an analyst. Working from the same suite, the analyst can run the scenario, adjust the variables, and extract the performance data.

EXata Lite Features & Capabilities

EXata Lite features plenty of capabilities for both scenario designers and analysts. These capabilities include:

  • Entirely viewable scenario with the ability to change allowed parameters
  • Execution of multiple runs and comparison of results between scenarios
  • Access to the same libraries as the associated developer installation, which includes licensed external interfaces such as federations with other simulators
  • A simplified user interface that enables users to run multiple what-if scenarios
  • Analysis of scenarios by personnel who are focused on operational activities, without the need for extensive networking or EXata software background
  • Faster results for multiple scenario analyses using parallel runtime coordinates

All of these features make EXata Lite the right solution for running a variety of scenarios and analyzing their results, with consistent accessibility and transparency.

Adjustable Parameters

There are many parameters that users are able to change for scenarios. Designers can select which parameters analysts are permitted to change, and the interface makes it easy for analysts to make any necessary changes for additional optimization. EXata Lite allows designers and analysts to change the following parameters:

  • Heat map settings
  • Mobility
  • Channel frequencies
  • StatsDB tables and granularity
  • Simulation time
  • Path loss models
  • Antenna model
  • Antenna gain, height
  • Tx power, Rx sensitivity
  • Application traffic parameters
  • Faults
  • Cyber

However, certain parameters are unchangeable, including number of nodes, topology, radio type, MAC protocol, routing protocol, and network protocol.
